    Short video episodes for managers

Youniversity is a learning platform for managers and organizations: short video series and podcasts on management, sales and personal effectiveness. We designed and built the mobile app, the web app and the sales page.

    Challenge

A large knowledge base only makes sense if a manager can find something relevant in a few minutes, on the phone and at the computer.

Organizations needed one place to build skills in team management, sales and personal effectiveness, available in a web and a mobile app. Video materials had to be protected against copying, and the platform had to stay stable even with several hundred users at once.

We organized the content into series of short episodes, categories and learning paths. Around them we designed what helps people come back to learning: notes, quizzes and exams, viewing statistics, and gamification with points, badges and rewards.

From the first episode to a certificate

The same path works in the mobile app and in the browser, and progress carries over between devices.

    1. 01

      Choosing a topic

Categories, search and featured series lead to content matched to the user’s role and needs.

    2. 02

      Learning in short episodes

A series as video or podcast, with seasons, a trailer and notes added during an episode.

    3. 03

      Testing knowledge

Quizzes after episodes and exams with a score, retakes and a certificate.

    4. 04

      Progress and motivation

Learning paths, viewing statistics, a team leaderboard, badges and a catalog of rewards for points earned.

    Discovering content

The home screen opens with a featured series and categories. Next come “Continue watching” and featured series, and search shows results as cover art.

Learning a few minutes a day

Every series can be watched or listened to as a podcast. Episodes are followed by quizzes and exams, and the learning path suggests what to watch next.

    Progress and gamification

The profile shows watch time, notes and quizzes compared with the previous period. Points for regular learning move the player up through levels and unlock badges and rewards.

The same knowledge in the browser

The web app gives access to the same series, paths and statistics as the mobile app, and the sales page leads to a free trial.

    01

    Home page

After signing in, the top of the page shows the active learning path with progress and the series that belong to it. Below are “Continue watching”, content picked for the user, popular series, the most watched this month and shortcuts to categories.

    02

    Catalog and filters

Each category is a grid of covers with filters: sorting, what you will learn, available subtitles and extra materials. This makes it easy to narrow a large library of series down to a few titles.

    03

    Profile and learning paths

In the profile, the user sees their subscription, statistics for a selected period, a viewing chart and the progress of their active path. The learning path shows the series in progress, the next episode and the series still to watch.

    04

    Sales page

The product page explains what the service offers (short episodes, video or podcasts, notes, quizzes and personalized paths) and ends with a comparison of the monthly and annual plans with an invitation to a free trial.

    Scope of work

    1. UX/UI

Mobile and web app: content discovery, video and podcast player, notes, quizzes, exams, profile, gamification and subscriptions, plus the sales page.

    2. Development

A Flutter mobile app for Android and iOS, a Vue web app and a Laravel backend with a GraphQL API.

    3. Security and performance

Protecting video materials against copying and load testing for several hundred concurrent users.
